Four o'clock is an institution; the Lipa is its silverware — strainers, stands and burners as the format states, porcelain that rings, and a pattern kept in the archive for the day a cup meets a stone floor.

The kiln rooms fire porcelain at 1,400 degrees until it rings; painters then lay cobalt and gilt by brush, plate by plate, signing the underside of every dozen. Crystal is mouth-blown and hand-cut on stone wheels, annealed overnight, and rung once at the bench — a clear note is the works' idea of a signature.

Crystal washes one piece at a time in warm water, dries with a lint-free cloth, and stores upright, never hanging by the foot. Decanters dry over a wooden peg, not a spout-down guess.
